Amongst the names of 22 bravehearts announced by Indian Council for Child Welfare (ICCW) to be rewarded the National Bravery Award this year. Four of the children were from the states of Northeastern India, namely Lalrinhlua (Mizoram), Koroungamba Kuman (Manipur), Stripleaseman Mylliem (Meghalaya) and Ramdinthara (Mizoram).
The 15-year-old Ramdinthara from Mizoram, who sacrificed his life on March 31, 2012 while trying to save his friend from drowning, despite the fact that he did not know how to swim, is the only child to get the National Bravery Award posthumously this year. Ramdinthara was a student of Class X at Don Bosco School, Lawngtlai in southern Mizoram.
